While he is facing a shortage of arms, ammunition, food and medicine, Bo sends small units in Khmer Rouge controlled villages as far as Seam Reap to spy and recruit new members. https://t.co/MNLnrBmhVj Speaking to the Council of Ministers POL Pot states that in general the food rations – 1 1/2 to 2 cans of rice per person- were enough. Speaking at a Khmer Rouge Standing Committee meeting, POL Pot says that 30 to 50 % of rice production need to be given to the State. If the target of 3 tonnes of rice / hectare is not attained, the party “can’t feed the general public or build or defend the country”. OnThisDay

Following yesterday’s @thenation report, the Thai government refuses to extend Gen. Sek Samiad’s permit to stay in Thailand and denies official approval of his resistance activities. According to Thai officials, Thai and Cambodian liaison officers didn’t meet the past 2 weeks.

Former Cambodian President Lon Nol estimates 1.5 million people were killed since the Khmer Rouge (“Communist puppets”) took over Cambodia, which he partly attributes to a Vietnamese plot. Meanwhile his own coup against Sihanouk in 1970 was a “reflection of popular will” https://t.co/iarnunJwTZ The St Louis Jewish Light writes “The world must not remain silent in the face of the Cambodian blood bath”. For its part, the very least the US should do is “forcefully express its concern in the halls of @UN and urge China & the Soviets to press for moderation in Cambodia”.

A storage list of the Khmer Rouge ministry of commerce reveals that animal products are being collected for export to China: two bearskins, a tigerskin, 140 kg of musk deer antlers, 40 kg of tortoise shell , 20 kg of tiger bones and 70 kg of monkey bones.
