In an interview with @AFP, Hun Sen, the People’s Republic’s Foreign Minister admits a “serious food shortage” in Cambodia. Because of a lack of tools & seeds, “collective exploitation” is needed for agricultural production, “but without Khmer Rouge methods.” Thai Prime Minister Kriangsak seeks Soviet support for a Geneva conference on Cambodia with the Khmer Rouge, Sihanouk & Heng Samrin in attendance. Diplomats discussed “reconvening” Geneva 1954 for months, as it would predecide attendance (🇹ðŸ‡& ASEAN didn’t in 1954)

Meeting Castro in Havana, Ros Samay, General Secretary of Cambodia’s Salvation Front (KUNFS) says only a “few remnants” of Pol Pot’s regime remain opposition “scarcely exists.” Food and clothes, until recently scare, “are available thanks to socialist countries”

SPK (radio of the Kampuchean National United Front for National Salvation) announces “professional training courses” in “commune self management” which focus on the “stabilization” of people’s lives as well as “the development of production”.

Laotian President Souphanouvong, visits PhnomPenh to sign a “statement” of mutual cooperation, as well as agreements on economic, cultural, and technical “cooperation.” In a joint-communique China was urged to stop all acts of interference in Cambodia.

About 50,000 civilians are cornered in a 50-kilometre long area running parallel to the Thai border, with Khmer Rouge troops forming a line between them and the border to prevent them escaping to Thailand. The KR are said to exhaust their food supply in 5 days.
